Skirting the Issue

Last week, Christen and I attended DC Style Factory‘s workshop on skirts hosted by Betsy Fisher, a popular destination for clothes and accessories in the District. We went both to support our friend Rosana and to up our skirt game since neither of us is a frequent skirt wearer.

Rosana came prepared with a host of practical tips on tailoring, shoe pairings and hosiery. She reviewed the essentials every woman should own–a tailored black pencil skirt, a black A-line skirt in a ponte knit and a colored pencil skirt, ideally in a plum or wine hue that will function as a neutral. We also discussed the difficulty of deciding whether the hemline of a skirt should hit above or below the knee. Finally, this spring, she recommended that we all try two on-trend styles that will carry into fall easily. First, the statement skirt. And of course, the midi.

We had plenty of time afterward to shop and admire the remarkable selection at Betsy Fisher while catching up with friends who also attended the event, including Alison of Wardrobe Oxygen. It was a fun way to end our week, and we learned a lot! If you ever are unsure of how to wear a certain skirt or the right shoes for a new favorite, you can of course reach out to DC Style Factory or stop by The Shoe Hive anytime!
