TOMORROW: Charity Day Benefitting the Foundation to Eradicate Duchenne

FED Charity Day

In 2005, my only nephew was diagnosed with a disease I had never heard of before–Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. A few Google searches later, we knew it was the most prolific genetic killer of young men, and sadly, it always is a killer. Brad and I soon got involved with a foundation searching for a cure to this disorder. This particular foundation is based right here in Alexandria, founded and driven by Joel and Dana Wood of Belle Haven, whose own son is also battling Duchenne. The Woods, and another Alexandria couple, Dave and Monica Heil, have done incredible and inspiring things with the Foundation to Eradicate Duchenne, turning the attention of the entire Congress to this cause. In our annual tribute to the life-saving research F.E.D. is funding, we are proud to sponsor Charity Day at The Shoe Hive TOMORROW, October 20th. Every purchase you make ALL DAY tomorrow will trigger a donation from us to F.E.D. equal to 40% of the purchase price.

The boys battling Duchenne MD have a tough draw. They lose their ability to walk in their teens and life expectancy is just to their 20s. But research is moving very fast, thanks in no small part to the great work of this foundation. When our nephew, Joel, was diagnosed, there had never been a clinical trial for a new treatment in the United States. In the last two years alone, there have been more than 50. We are moving quickly to save this generation of boys and you can help simply by shopping!

We hope to see you tomorrow!
